With fall around the corner, now is the time to register for ballet classes at Springfield Ballet. Whether you or your child are new to dance or have enjoyed the art form previously, Springfield Ballet welcomes you to experience classical ballet technique instruction during its 16-week semester. Beginning Aug. 19, classes offered are creative movement, ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, stretch & strengthen and a NEW beginner boys’ class (ages 7+)! Also offered are open adult ballet & conditioning exercise classes and Dance With Me parent and child classes. Register by August 15 for a discounted registration fee.

The Park Board has fun programs to keep kids active. Doling Family Center has dance programs including Tiny Dancers for 3- and 4-year-olds, and beginning, intermmediate and advanced dance classes for kids ages 5-10 years.There are several sessions to choose from. Dance lessons are mostly on Saturdays, and fees are $30 for center members, $40 for non-members.


Barbara Hays, Piano
Learning to play piano carries so many more benefits for children and adults than just musical skills. Studying piano helps with focus, hand-eye coordination, and self-discipline. Barbara teaches at her in-home studio in Springfield, and her students range in age from children (starting at age 7) through senior adults.

Kindermusik with Ellen

Kindermusik has helped millions of children from newborns to age 5 around the world build strong foundations for lifetimes of learning. Ellen Hartman is a Kindermusik Maestro, recognized for her exceptional instruction. Enrollment for the fall semester is open, and classes begin Aug. 19. In 2019-20, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra presents its 85th season “American Playlist.” Mark your family’s calendar for the Springfield Symphony’s “Spooky Symphony” on Oct. 21, and “An American Christmas Matinee” on Dec. 7. Whether you prefer spooky sounds or heartwarming holiday hits, your kids and you will giggle with delight as you listen to your local orchestra play your cinematic favorites. Musical Bridges Music Therapy was founded locally in 2011 by Leslie Jones with the mission to provide quality music therapy services to people of all ages and abilities. She encourages children to discover the gift of music and how music can be a bridge to overcoming obstacles. Springfield Little Theatre offers programs for all ages in acting, voice, and dance. Education Series productions are open to participants ages 4-18. School’s Out Workshops provide play-in-a-day programs when Springfield Public Schools are closed during the school year. Youth troupes are open to students in grades 2-12. These ensembles mentor young children in education programs and entertain at special events for the theatre and the community.

The Family Art Lab and Book Nook in the Museum’s Education Wing are interactive spaces where children explore art through touching, building, and pretending.
